A Simple Guide To Planning Your Next Painting or Custom Finish Project
Starting a home project should feel exciting, not stressful. Whether you’re refreshing a few rooms, updating cabinets, adding a feature wall, or planning an exterior repaint, the easiest projects are the ones that begin with a clear plan.
That’s why we created Plan Your Project: a guided way to share the right details up front so we can collaborate with you on the best next steps. Think of it like a mini project map, built before we ever arrive onsite.
What “Plan Your Project” Is
Plan Your Project is a short, step-by-step planner where you can:
choose the type of work you’re considering
add helpful details (repairs, trim, feature walls, cabinets, etc.)
upload photos
share your timeline
tell us what matters most to you (durability, design help, speed, etc.)
It’s designed to make your first step feel organized and easy.
Why Planning First Makes the Whole Project Better
A great finish comes from good prep and good communication. When we understand your space and your goals early, we can:
recommend the best approach for your home
anticipate prep needs (repairs, caulking, smoothing, protection)
plan materials and sequencing more accurately
reduce surprises and back-and-forth
keep the process calm and collaborative

How to Use Plan Your Project (Quick Walkthrough)
Step 1: Choose your project lane
Pick what best fits:
Interior Transformation
Cabinet Refinishing
Feature Walls + Ceilings (board & batten, shiplap, wainscoting, ceiling detail)
Exteriors (Seasonal)
or Not sure yet (totally fine)
Step 2: Add the details that matter
You’ll have options for things like:
walls vs. trim vs. ceilings
repairs needed (light/moderate/heavy)
add-ons like feature work, wallpaper, cabinets, doors/trim upgrades
what you want the space to feel like when it’s finished
Step 3: Upload photos (this is the game-changer)
Photos help us understand layout, surfaces, and prep needs quickly so we can guide you accurately.
Step 4: Share your timeline and priorities
Tell us your ideal timing and what matters most:
durability
design guidance
speed/turnaround
a very clean, protected process
budget clarity
Step 5: Submit, and we’ll guide the next step
Once we receive your planner, we’ll review and follow up with the best next step: recommendations, questions (if needed), and how we’ll proceed.
What Photos to Upload (Simple Checklist)
To make things easy, here’s what helps most:
Interiors
wide shots of each room
close-ups of cracks, nail pops, seams, water stains, or peeling
trim/baseboards/doors if they’re included
Cabinets
one photo of the full kitchen
close-ups of doors/drawers
inside corners and around the sink/stove (high-wear areas)
Feature walls + ceilings
the full wall/ceiling you want to change
one close-up showing texture or existing conditions
a quick sketch or inspiration photo (optional)
Exteriors
full elevation shots (front/back if possible)
close-ups of peeling, rot, gaps, or heavy wear
decks/rails if they’re included
If You’re Not Sure What You Need Yet
That’s more common than you think. If your brain is saying:
“I just want it to feel brighter,”
“This room needs character,”
“The kitchen feels tired,”
“We need a refresh before guests arrive,”
Choose Not sure yet and tell us what you want the home to feel like. We’ll help you shape the plan from there.

Your Project Should Feel Like a Collaboration
Our goal is for this to feel like teamwork: your vision + our process + a clear plan that makes the experience smooth from day one.
